Predicting of Ways to Use Videos inside Classes


After talking about the advantages and the disadvantages of using videos in classes, let us now talk about how to use them. In other words, when you will be teachers in the future what are the ways and techniques of using videos you will use inside your classes

  1. Considering the advantages and the drawbacks of using videos in the teaching process, teachers should know how, when, what, why, and where to use videos inside classrooms. In my point of view, the use of videos depends on the grade of the students. In other words, the ways of using videos inside classrooms differ from grade to another. For example, grade 1 to grade 6 students like to watch cartoon. Therefore, teachers should use cartoons in the instructional design of videos in these grades. Moreover, students who are in grade 7 to 10 like to watch documentary videos and students in grade 11 and 12 like to watch scientific videos in addition to the documentary videos. Therefore, teachers should be aware of the interest of the students to use applicable, appropriate, and suitable kind of videos for the students. Mohammed Al Wahaibi

  2. There are many ways to apply using videos inside the classroom atmosphere which have place after knowing clearly the merits and the demerits of employing them inside the classroom environment. The first and most significant method is utilizing the videos according to the content of the students' curriculum and grade in a way that will match their level of understanding. For example, explaining the past tense in a video of a sensational story. The second instrument that can be used in a video for students to enhance their learning process is a short drama scene in which it clarifies English learning obstacles and how to surpass them. At last, using videos in a moderate way can make both students and teachers avoid the dark view of excessive employment of videos inside the classroom.

  3. There are many ideas about using video at class for a creative teacher. These activities don't need too much preparation. By the way teachers don't forget to make a difference between accuracy and fluency exercises, and DON'T CORRECT your students while they try to express themselves.

  4. Videos are a good way of reinforcing the course material being taught. I as a teacher may have to request specific materials if they are not provided for me in the classroom. It is important if we are using a clip or a video to have it ready to go and at the proper location. Tape counters may differ from those we have at home and we shouldn't rely on them to find something quickly in the classroom.

  5. One of the ways for using videos is to introduce a topic for your lecture. This often needs preparation and a wider range of videos available, so that it can be of real help. Used well, it can be an excellent "starting point" for a class especially for conversational classes

News programs, documentaries, and teaching compilations of video segments on particular topics are available for purchase or may be distributed with textbooks. Entertainment videos can be shown to stimulate class discussions or as cultural works.

  8. A further technique is to let the students listen to the video, without watching. Students in this case can imagine what is shown on the screen while listening to a commentary or people speaking on the video

  9. Moreover, teachers can let their students watch a 3-5 minutes video, then he can ask them open and closed questions or the students can ask each other. Also the teacher can say sentences about the video which are not true, and the students have to correct him/her. Another task which is related to this way is that the teacher can start a sentence about the video, and the students have to complete the sentence giving true or untrue information. A further way is that students might be asked to continue the story of the video. They can write the continuation down, or say it directly, depending on their level

Before talking about the ways, the teacher has to take into consideration the levels of the students and the content of the course. One way is that the teacher can show the students a video. After that, the teacher can ask them for what they get from the video or ask them about their feedback.

One way which might help the teacher to be successful is that he can take a lesson from the textbook and bring a video which is related to the video. For example, he can teach the students a story. After that, he can show them the story as a movie.

For examples, before playing the video, teachers should give a story or some facts that happen in the real life and these facts should be related to what is inside the video to get the students ready to watch the video and to make them aware about what is inside the video.

In addition, teachers should be certain that the students are involved in what is going in the video. Moreover, teachers should pause the video where there is a crucial event and clarify it to the students. Furthermore, the most important strategy that teachers should follow while they use videos in the classrooms is that they should relate what is in the video to the content and to the subject of the lesson.

  15. When the video is finished, teachers should evaluate the understanding of the students. And this kind of method can be made by many ways. One style of measure if the students understand the topic inside the video or not is that teachers should ask questions which are associated with the video and then evaluate the answers and participations. Other methods of evaluating the understanding of the students are tests, games, and activities.

  16. There are several ways and principles of using vedio in the classrooms. Teachers should design a video which matches the curriculum. I think the most effective way which teachers should follow in using video or any media in the classrooms is Assure Model. They should follow method selection principles like:
     Usable
     Cost-effective
     Simple
     Adequately informative
     Scientifically correct
     Safe
     Matches the curriculum
     Arouses motivation and maintain interest
     Provides for learner participation
     Uses clear and concise language
